Paint The Town Beige – Holiday Thoughts

I have always liked this song.  Hearing it again for the first time in sobriety, really changes the meaning for me.  During the holidays, it is the time to Paint the Town Beige!  Perfect example of this in my life came Saturday night.  After church we went to a Christmas party with our gym at a local restaurant.  They messed up the reservations so the tables weren’t ready when we got there.  So of course everyone was gathered around the bar.  No issues there.  I got my glass of water and stood around talking.  Everyone started migrating over to bar tables while we were waiting and one of the ladies brought out a tupperware container of rum soaked gummi bears.  We were 2 or 3 tables away and when she popped the top, that was all I could smell.  I wouldn’t call it a good smell or a triggering smell.  Never was a rum drinker.  It was just a strong alcohol smell.  We all eventually began to get seated and I excused myself to go to the rest room and grab a smoke.  The drinking inside was getting going pretty good by then.  I had told Jackie before we got there that if I got uncomfortable at any point, it was time to leave.  While in the bath room, I started to get that feeling.  It was time to go.  Not because I wanted to drink, but I didn’t want to put myself in a position where that thought might raise its ugly head.  While I was smoking, Jackie came out and said she was ready to go.  I Love My Wife!  She didn’t say it or want to because of me, she did it for me.  We left, had a nice quiet dinner somewhere else and enjoyed the rest of our evening, SOBER.  The point I am trying to make, is that we “Painted the Town Beige”, and still had a good evening!  You can too!
….. from the tv show “Heart To Heart with Stan Hitchcock”, circa 1993……
I gave up the fast lane for a blacktop county road.
Just burned out on all that talk about the mother lode
I traded for a songbird and a bigger piece of sky.
When I miss the good old days I can’t imagine why.
Still I get restless and drive into town
I cruise once down Main street and turn back around.
It’s crazy but God knows I don’t act my age
Like an old desperado who paints the town beige.
Down along the river and past the swimming hole
You can find your piece of mind with just a fishin’ pole.
And you can walk the river for miles and miles on end
And never stop believin’ in that dream around the bend.
Still I get restless and drive into town
I cruise once down Main street and turn back around.
It’s crazy but God knows I don’t act my age
Like and old desperado who paints the town beige.
Deep down in the winter time slows to a crawl.
There’s really nothin’ much to do until the first spring thaw.
It’s then I get to thinkin’ I must have gone insane.
Old memories roll through my mind like a long slow railroad train.
Still I get restless and drive into town
I cruise once down Main street and turn back around.
It’s crazy but God knows I don’t act my age
Like and old desperado who paints the town beige.

It absolutely makes a world of difference! My wife has been unbelievably supportive through out. All the ups and downs she stood by me when no one else would or should. Thanks so much Wendy!

  2. Hello ,

I saw your tweets and thought I will check your website. Have to say it looks very good!
I’m also interested in this topic and have recently started my journey as young entrepreneur.

I’m also looking for the ways on how to promote my website. I have tried AdSense and Facebok Ads, however it is getting very expensive.
Can you recommend something what works best for you?

Would appreciate, if you can have a quick look at my website and give me an advice what I should improve: http://janzac.com/
(Recently I have added a new page about FutureNet and the way how users can make money on this social networking portal.)

I wanted to subscribe to your newsletter, but I couldn’t find it. Do you have it?

Hope to hear from you soon.

    P.S.
Maybe I will add link to your website on my website and you will add link to my website on your website? It will improve SEO of our websites, right? What do you think?

    Regards
    Jan Zac

Thank you so much. I haven’t set up a newsletter yet. It is on my list. 🙂 Basically as far as promotion is concerned, right now it is just word of mouth. I have a corresponding FB page and Instagram acct that I post to but that is about it at this point. I will definitely get to your site today. My wife and I are having breakfast with my FIL/MIL this morning so it will be this afternoon. Thanks again and like we say in the meetings, Keep Coming Back!
