Resurrection

I married my wife, Jackie, in 2011.  She knew my history but not how heavy my drinking was.  We tried many things to stop it or slow it down.  I changed from liquor to beer, only at home, AA, limiting my access to money…..  You get the point.  WE did try, but nothing worked.  I guess I wasn’t ready to say I am done.  Over the next 6 years, I continued to drink.  I lost 4 really good jobs either directly or indirectly to drinking.  The last being on August 30, 2017.  This after promising Jackie and myself that I wouldn’t screw it up.  All the time meaning it 100%.

On August 31, Jackie came home for lunch and found me at home drinking.  I hadn’t told her I was fired the day before.  She is smart and figured it out pretty quickly.  She took my keys and debit card.  Later that day, I got a call from a good friend.  He and his wife Meredith lead our couples group at church.  He told me he found a place for me to go for help and he would pick me up to take me.  I told him ok.  I was finally ready.  This time was different.  I had accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior and was baptized earlier in the year.  This changed my whole attitude about it.  While in treatment, I started a bible study group.  We started with 4 people and when I left on September 28th, we were up to 8.  I hope the newcomers will keep it going in my absence.

I am currently working my program and attending 90 meetings in 90 days.  I have not missed one yet.  I am working the 12 steps with my sponsor as well.  This is a life long commitment that I am making to myself, my family and my friends.

Thank you for your patience and allowing me to share my story with you.  I am not an expert or perfect by any stretch of the imagination, but if you have any questions, I will try to answer them.

God Bless You and all the alcoholics and addicts still out there suffering.

  1. I am so proud of the progress you have made and will continue to be your biggest supporter.
I know what a wonderful man you are, and I know God has a plan for your life and cant wait to see all the things you will accomplish, and all the people you will help along the way.

  2. Robert – I read all of your posts and can’t thank you enough for being brave enough to share your story! I like the title of the last post, Resurrection. That’s exactly what this is. Jesus died so that we could be redeemed. He pulls us from the depths and washes away all the sin and darkness of our past. We are made NEW! All those poor choices and the circumstances of your past are forgiven and forgotten and we are SAVED!

Now with Jesus by your side, you are well on your way to 6 months, 1 year, 10 years, 20 years etc. clean & sober. Clint and I are proud to call you friend and we are in this with you, whatever you need!!

Looking forward to seeing more posts from you!!!
